Capitals, Feb. 8 (SANA) – The United Nations and the United States strongly condemned the escalating violence in Sudan, where attacks on civilians and humanitarian operations have intensified amid the ongoing conflict between the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudanese Armed Forces.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres denounced the surge in violence in a statement, saying attacks on civilians, humanitarian workers, and health facilities violate international humanitarian law and impede life-saving assistance. He urged an immediate and sustained ceasefire, de-escalation through dialogue, protection of civilians, and safe, uninterrupted humanitarian access.
Similarly, Massad Boulos, a senior adviser to the US President on Arab and African affairs, said Washington would continue efforts to achieve a humanitarian truce in Sudan, building momentum toward a ceasefire and a transition to inclusive civilian governance.
Saudi Arabia condemned what it described as “criminal assaults” by the RSF on a military hospital, a World Food Program aid convoy and a bus carrying displaced civilians in North and South Kordofan, while Kuwait and Egypt also denounced attacks on civilians and medical and aid facilities, warning they would further deepen Sudan’s humanitarian crisis, which has killed tens of thousands and displaced millions since April 2023.
