Washington, Jan. 08 (SANA) U.S. President Donald Trump has signed a memorandum directing the United States to withdraw from 66 international organizations, including 35 non-U.N. bodies and 31 entities affiliated with the United Nations, according to a White House statement.
The White House announced that President Trump’s decision, made public on January 8, targets international organizations that no longer serve U.S. interests, with a focus on ending U.S. taxpayer funding and participation in entities accused of promoting globalist agendas or operating inefficiently.
According to CNN, the White House statement emphasized that the move aligns with Trump’s broader policy to halt support for international bodies that are seen as detrimental to U.S. priorities.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio reiterated the administration’s position on “X”, stressing that the decision fulfills a key promise to stop supporting international organizations he described as “hostile” or “wasteful.” Rubio underscored that the Trump administration would always put America and Americans first, and indicated that other international organizations were still under review.
This move is part of a broader strategy by Trump’s administration, which has sought to reduce Washington’s financial contributions to the United Nations, halt U.S.
participation in the Human Rights Council, and extend the suspension of funding for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). Additionally, the Trump administration has withdrawn from UNESCO, announced plans to exit the World Health Organization, and stated intentions to leave the Paris Climate Agreement.
