ANKARA, Dec. 15 (SANA) Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Turkey will continue its efforts to promote peace and justice across the region, citing ongoing conflicts and what he described as widespread violations of human rights.
Speaking at a news conference on Monday following a cabinet meeting in Ankara, Erdogan said Turkey has “set an example for the world in defending human rights through policies centered on peace and justice,” pointing to its role in Syria, Gaza, and other areas affected by prolonged violence.
Erdogan argued that conflicts across the region have undermined the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, particularly the right to life, and attributed those violations to what he described as a failure by the international community to uphold global norms.
He accused the Syrian defunct regime of violating international human rights standards for more than 13 and a half years, citing chemical attacks and systematic torture as examples.
The Turkish president also said Israel’s actions in Gaza over the past two years amounted to war crimes and genocide carried out “in full view of the world,” calling them a clear demonstration of the erosion of international human rights principles.
Erdogan criticized international institutions and the broader global community for failing to prevent such violations, saying they had largely remained passive instead of working toward concrete solutions.
He also reiterated remarks made over the weekend in which he said Turkey seeks security, peace, and prosperity for the Syrian people, while condemning what he described as Israel’s continued violations of the cease-fire agreement in Gaza.
