UNHCR secures over $1.5 billion in pledges for its 2026 operations

Geneva Dec.03 (SANA) The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) announced Tuesday that global donors have made more than $1.5 billion in pledges for the agency’s 2026 programs.

Agence France-Presse (AFP) quoted High Commissioner Filippo Grandi as saying in a statement during the donor conference in Geneva: “Today’s commitments show that the world has not turned its back on people forced to flee, and that support for refugees endures.”

According to the agency, governments pledged $1.161 billion, while the private sector committed an additional $350 million, bringing the total to more than $1.5 billion—an amount that covers around 18 percent of UNHCR’s projected funding requirements for next year.

UNHCR said major contributors include Denmark, Germany, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway, as well as Ireland, Luxembourg and Iceland, in addition to the European Union, which also promised substantial funding for 2026.
