Afghanistan and Pakistan have agreed to restart negotiations next month aimed at establishing a lasting ceasefire along their shared border, following deadly clashes earlier this month.

According to a statement from the Turkish Foreign Ministry quoted by Agence France-Presse, both sides will convene for a high-level meeting in Istanbul on November 6 to discuss the technical details of the ceasefire agreement.

The ministry noted that the talks will include proposals to set up a monitoring and verification mechanism to ensure compliance and impose penalties on any violations.

Pakistan’s state broadcaster PTV confirmed that Islamabad agreed to resume talks at the request of the host country. Meanwhile, Afghan government spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid said on the social platform X that a “complex process” had led to mutual agreement to reconvene and address unresolved issues.

The renewed diplomatic effort comes in the wake of unprecedented border clashes earlier this month that left dozens dead on both sides, raising concerns about regional stability and the need for sustained dialogue.
