Pakistan and Afghanistan agree on Ceasefire

Pakistan and Afghanistan reached an agreement for an immediate ceasefire, following intensive negotiations hosted in the Qatari capital, Doha, with joint mediation by the State of Qatar and the Republic of Turkey.

The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, in a statement carried by the Qatar News Agency (QNA), that the two parties agreed to establish joint mechanisms aimed at consolidating sustainable peace and stability between the two countries. They also agreed to  hold periodic meetings to follow up on the implementation of the agreement and ensure its reliable and effective continuation.

The statement affirmed that this step represents an important development towards calming border tensions, which have recently witnessed ground clashes and airstrikes, resulting in a number of deaths and injuries on both sides.

The State of Qatar expressed its hope that this agreement will form a solid foundation for lasting peace between Pakistan and Afghanistan
