Trump Expresses Willingness to Extend Nuclear Arms Reduction Treaty with Moscow

U.S. President Donald Trump expressed his willingness to continue working on the nuclear arms reduction treaty with Moscow, which Russian President Vladimir Putin had previously proposed a one-year extension.

Trump was quoted by AFP agency as saying at the White House when asked for his response to Putin’s offer to extend the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty, it “Sounds like a good idea to me”.

This treaty aims to limit in both countries’ deployed offensive nuclear weapons, requiring the levels of intercontinental ballistic missiles, submarine-launched ballistic missiles, and nuclear warheads remain below the agreed-upon limits.

The treaty, signed in 2010, limits each side to 1,550 deployed nuclear warheads and 800 deployed and non-deployed ballistic missile launchers and heavy bombers, as well as a mutual verification system.
