JERUSALEM – Reporters Without Borders (RWB) launched a global media campaign on Monday to denounce Israel’s targeting of Palestinian journalists in Gaza and to call for stronger protections for media workers.
The initiative, organized in cooperation with campaign platform Avaaz, includes the participation of more than 150 international media outlets such as Al Jazeera, The Independent (UK), and networks from multiple countries.
As part of the campaign, some outlets will symbolically “black out” their front pages or suspend broadcasts temporarily, airing a unified message demanding an end to attacks on journalists and greater accountability.
The campaign also seeks to secure safe access for foreign reporters to Gaza, where the flow of independent information has been severely restricted, RWB stressed.
According to Gaza’s Media Office, at least 246 journalists have been killed since the Israeli military campaign began on Oct. 7, 2023, while dozens more remain injured or missing.
