New York, SANA-The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights has strongly condemned the killing of Palestinian journalists in Gaza, describing the ongoing attacks as both “shocking and unacceptable.” The Commission urged the international community to demand accountability and ensure justice for those targeted.
According to the UN News Centre, spokesperson Thamin al-Khitan stressed the indispensable role of media professionals, stating: “Journalists are the eyes and ears of the world. They must be protected, and every incident involving harm to them must be thoroughly investigated. Those responsible must be held accountable.”
Al-Khitan reported that at least 247 Palestinian journalists have been killed in Gaza since October 7, 2023 — including five who died yesterday in Israeli airstrikes on the Nasser Medical Complex.
Meanwhile, Philippe Lazzarini, Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), highlighted the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza. He noted that the flow of aid remains far below what is required to address the crisis, but stressed that this situation can and must change.
In a post on X, Lazzarini appealed to Israel to allow unrestricted humanitarian access, including through UNRWA. He urged all influential parties to act decisively and with a sense of moral responsibility, adding: “Every hour can make a difference.”
