Occupied Jerusalem, Feb. 24 (SANA) The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the burning of a mosque south of Nablus in the West Bank by Israeli settlers, describing it as a flagrant violation of the sanctity of places of worship during the holy month of Ramadan and a breach of international law and norms.
In a statement carried by WAFA on Monday, the ministry said that a group of settlers, under the protection of Israeli occupation forces, stormed the village of Tal, southwest of the city, and set fire to the Abu Bakr Mosque using flammable materials. The attackers also sprayed anti-Arab and anti-Muslim graffiti on its walls.
The ministry stressed that the attack constitutes a new crime and a deliberate provocation against the Palestinian people and the Arab and Islamic nations. It called on the international community to assume its legal and moral responsibilities and take immediate and binding measures to protect the Palestinian people and their holy sites.
It reiterated its demand that the perpetrators be held accountable, describing such acts as part of an organized policy aimed at undermining Palestinian presence and targeting religious and cultural heritage.
The ministry affirmed that the State of Palestine will continue its political, legal, and diplomatic efforts in international forums to ensure accountability, mobilize international support to end the occupation, and achieve a just and comprehensive peace based on the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, in accordance with international law and relevant UN resolutions.
