Saudi medical delegation begins its volunteer work in Damascus hospitals

Saudi medical delegation begins its volunteer work in Damascus hospitals

Damascus, SANA-A Saudi medical team from the King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Aid, in coordination with the Al-Amin Organization for Humanitarian Support, began implementing the Saudi volunteer program (Amal) in several Damascus hospitals.

Saudi medical delegation begins its volunteer work in Damascus hospitalsSpecialist doctors from the team began performing joint replacement surgeries (hip and knee) at the National University Hospital in Damascus, which will continue for a period ranging from one week to ten days, and include performing 50 surgeries at a standard of six surgeries per day.

The hospital’s general director, Dr. Abdul Ghani al-Shalabi, explained in a statement to a SANA reporter that coordination was made with the medical team to perform the surgeries by specialist doctors in orthopedic and joint surgery, in the presence of specialists from the hospital and postgraduate students to review the procedures and exchange experiences.

In the General Authority of al-Mouwasat University Hospital in Damascus, the Saudi medical team performed 15 cochlear implant surgeries for children with hearing loss today.

Saudi medical delegation begins its volunteer work in Damascus hospitalsThe Director General of the Authority, Dr. Amin Suleiman, sad that the team will perform 31 surgeries within ten days for children between the ages of 3 and 5 years, noting that these surgeries “are the first of their kind, and are implemented within the framework of voluntary medical projects, and the cost of one operation ranges between 12 and 15 thousand dollars.”

For his part, the Director of Planning and International Cooperation at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Zuhair Qaraat, stated the program has also begun to be implemented in al-Biruni Hospital, and includes providing services to about 50 children, securing chemotherapy doses for three months, and performing some operations related to tumor surgery.

The Executive Director of Al-Amin Organization, Dr. Moawia Harsouni, stated in a similar statement that the program will provide 104 medical projects, economic and educational empowerment, and that the most needed projects and emergency response to support the Syrian people have been launched, while the Director of the Medical Program at Al-Amin Organization in Damascus, Dr. Alaa al-Khatib, said that the goal of launching the (Hope) volunteer program campaign is to help the Syrian people meet some of Syria’s medical needs.

Saudi medical delegation begins its volunteer work in Damascus hospitalsFor his part, the head of the Saudi delegation, Dr. Ali Al-Qarni, confirmed that the program will require more than 218,000 volunteer hours to implement, with the participation of more than 100 male and female volunteers, and will continue until the end of 2025 and includes the medical service aspect, training and rehabilitation, noting that the program includes all medical specialties.
