Damascus, May 21 (SANA) Syria’s Health Ministry on Thursday launched the first phase of a free surgical campaign for dialysis patients in Damascus aimed at improving access to vascular procedures essential for long-term kidney treatment.
The campaign, titled “Lifeline,” is being organized by the ministry with support from the Islamic Guidance Association (El Hedaya El Islameya) at the Kidney Surgery Hospital in Damascus.
The initiative focuses on performing arteriovenous fistula surgeries, a procedure commonly used to provide long-term vascular access for patients undergoing regular dialysis treatment.
According to organizers, the first phase of the campaign targets 30 patients from different age groups who meet the required medical conditions for surgery.
Health officials said the campaign is intended to support patients who face difficulties accessing specialized medical procedures amid growing pressure on Syria’s healthcare sector.
The campaign forms part of broader efforts by health authorities and local organizations to expand access to treatment services for patients with chronic illnesses and reduce the financial burden associated with long-term care.
