Geneva, March 15 (SANA) – The World Health Organization (WHO) announced Sunday it is allocating $2 million from its emergency fund to support health response efforts in Syria, Lebanon and Iraq, amid growing health challenges in the region.
In a statement, the organization said $1 million of the total funding will be directed to Lebanon, aimed at strengthening emergency coordination, expanding care for the injured and enhancing disease surveillance.
The funding will also be used to procure and distribute essential medicines and medical supplies, ensuring the continuity of vital health services and addressing urgent needs in the affected countries.
Earlier this month, the WHO warned that the escalating conflict in the Middle East is affecting at least 16 countries, placing increasing pressure on civilian populations and already strained health systems.
Regional tensions have intensified as Iran continues missile and drone attacks targeting several Arab countries, causing casualties and damage to infrastructure.
