Damascus, Feb.14 (SANA)-The Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC)received eight modern ambulances provided by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent (IFRC)Societies, as part of its support for emergency health care services and the development of the humanitarian response system.

The vehicles were handed over in Damascus on Friday during a ceremony attended by SARC President Hazem Beqleh, President International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Kate Forbes, and a number of officials from the organization and representatives of the International Federation.

Baqleh told SANA that the grant comes as a continuation of cooperation with the International Federation, explaining that the Red Crescent organization has responded over the past 15 years to humanitarian and emergency needs in all Syrian governorates.

Forbes also expressed the Federation’s appreciation for the leading role and work carried out by the SARC in responding to disasters and humanitarian needs, and providing emergency ambulance services, stressing that the organization’s efforts have made a tangible difference in the lives of the Syrian people.

“The federation’s mission is to provide technical support, facilitate funding, and provide vital equipment to its 191 national associations, stressing the International Federation’s commitment to remain and work in Syria in the coming years”, IFRC President Forbes added.

Forbes, started an official visit to Syria yesterday. The two-day visit includes tours of the (SARC) centers and facilities, as well as meetings with the organization’s leadership, representatives of the Syrian government, and representatives of international humanitarian organizations operating in Syria.
