Damascus, Jan. 22 (SANA) Health Minister Musab al-Ali inaugurated on Thursday the first pharmaceutical salt production line in Syria at the Miamed Pharmaceutical Industries plant in Damascus countryside.
Producing approximately 1,000 tons annually, the line will help supply dialysis solutions and serums. This project marks a step toward enhancing pharmaceutical security and self-sufficiency in the country.
Syria’s pharmaceutical sector has been a key focus of national health and economic policy, as the government works to strengthen local production, improve access to medicines, and reduce dependence on imports.
Last month, the Ministry of Health highlighted the National Health Strategy 2026–2028, which prioritizes equitable access to essential medicines and domestic pharmaceutical manufacturing as core components of national health security and recovery efforts. The strategy also emphasizes supporting local production, improving procurement systems, and ensuring reliable supply chains to enhance the availability of safe and effective medicines for all citizens.
