Syria and ALECSO discuss enhancing Syria's role in Arab education

Damascus, SANA – Dr. Mohammad Abdul Rahman Turko, Minister of Education, met Sunday with Dr. Rami Iskandar, Director of the Education Department at the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), and his accompanying delegation. Their discussions focused on strengthening joint cooperation across various educational fields.

During the meeting at the Ministry, both sides emphasized Syria’s leading role and its active participation in all of ALECSO’s activities.

Minister Turko outlined the Ministry’s upcoming emergency response plan, which prioritizes the rehabilitation of school infrastructure and facilitating the return of displaced students to their hometowns. Additionally, the plan includes dedicating a “civil peace matrix” within an activity room in every school to train students.

Dr. Turko extended a formal invitation to ALECSO’s Director-General, Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, to visit Syria, underscoring the importance of Syria regaining its central and pivotal role in the Arab educational arena.

Dr. Iskandar, in turn, highlighted the importance of establishing mechanisms for ALECSO’s contribution to the reconstruction of Syria’s education sector. This would involve renovating the infrastructure of schools and educational institutions and training educational staff.

He affirmed the organization’s commitment to providing full support for the educational sector in Syria and contributing to its development to meet its needs and the aspirations of its students.

Dr. Iskandar also stressed ALECSO’s keenness to enhance the educational landscape in Syria through its programs and activities. He confirmed that Syria currently holds a priority position within the organization’s agenda, given its significance and vital role in the region.
