Syrian-Turkish talks to enhance scientific cooperation between the two countries

Damascus, Sana-Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Marwan al-Halabi discussed on Thursday with Burhan Koroglu, Türkiye’s acting chargé d’affaires in Damascus, the possibility of establishing a Syrian-Turkish university and opening a department for teaching the Turkish language at Damascus University.

They discussed during the meeting establishing a joint cooperation group between Syrian and Turkish universities, activating academic exchange, and twinning between Syrian public universities and their Turkish counterparts, especially in the fields of engineering, technology, and Sharia sciences.

Minister Al-Halabi stressed the depth of historical and deep-rooted relations between the Syrian and Turkish peoples, and the importance of building bridges of trust and fruitful cooperation between the two countries in all fields, especially educational and academic, noting Turkey’s continued efforts and support for Syria.

Al-Halabi pointed out that the Syrian government has taken several steps to facilitate the return of Syrian students from Turkey.

For his part, Ambassador Koroglu stressed the importance of the strategic partnership between Syria and Turkey, praising the strong and stable relations between them, and appreciating Syria’s efforts to enhance the recognition of Turkish certificates and facilitate academic cooperation in a way that serves the interests of students and enhances joint scientific research.
