Deir Ezzor, Feb. 19 (SANA) More than 261,000 students have returned to classrooms across newly liberated areas of Deir Ezzor province following the rehabilitation of 765 schools, the Ministry of Education announced Wednesday, marking a significant step in restoring the region’s education sector.
Hamza Huriya, head of the Ministry’s Media Department, told SANA that the rehabilitation work covered schools in multiple districts to meet rising student needs and provide a safer, more stable learning environment after years of disruption.
According to Huriya, the Ministry has distributed 570,000 textbooks across all grade levels and supplied 10,000 new classroom desks, easing overcrowding and improving conditions in schools that had suffered extensive damage.
He added that reconstruction efforts remain ongoing, noting that 82 schools were completely destroyed and require full rebuilding. Coordination is underway with relevant authorities to secure funding and expedite reconstruction plans.
The Ministry of Education continues to implement support programs for schools and teaching staff as part of a broader government strategy to reintegrate students into the learning process and strengthen social stability and human development in the governorate.
Deir Ezzor’s education sector endured severe damage during the years of war, leaving hundreds of schools out of service and disrupting education for large numbers of children. The latest rehabilitation efforts aim to reverse that decline and restore normalcy to the region’s classrooms.
