Sultan bin Sulayem: Tartous Port will be one of the best ports in the world

Damascus, SANA-Chairman of the General Authority for Land and Sea Ports, Qutaiba Badawi, and Sultan Ahmad bin Sulayem, Chairman and CEO of DP World, held Sunday a press conference following the signing of an agreement aimed at strengthening port infrastructure and logistics services in Syria.

Sultan bin Sulayem said, “The Syrian economy has significant potential, including the port of Tartous, which represents an opportunity to transport and export many Syrian industries.” He emphasized that the port of Tartous “will be one of the best ports in the world, especially in terms of transportation and loading services”.

In turn, Badawi said: “In this agreement, we sought to build an investment cooperation model based on a balance between the requirements of economic recovery and the foundations of effective partnership, enabling the development of the infrastructure of the vital port of Tartous in a manner consistent with international standards.”

He added: “DP World possesses the technical expertise, strategic vision, and global experience necessary for the success of this process. During the negotiation stages, we witnessed a clear seriousness in the desire for constructive cooperation, and a vision that respects the uniqueness of the Syrian reality and understands our national priorities.”

Badawi stressed: “We were keen, under the leadership’s guidance, for this agreement to be balanced, tight, and based on transparency, in a way that guarantees the interests of the Syrian state and its people, and at the same time preserves the rights of the investing company.”

The head of the General Authority for Land and Maritime Ports clarified: “Today we are not merely signing a technical agreement, but rather establishing a new phase of field and maritime work that repositions Syria on the regional and international economic map through the development of the infrastructure of the vital port of Tartous in a manner consistent with international standards.”
