Damascus, Oct. 25 (SANA) Head of the General Authority for Borders and Customs Qutaiba Badawi met Sunday with Saudi Ambassador to Syria Ghazi al-Anzi to discuss expanding bilateral economic partnerships, modernizing customs frameworks, and enhancing regional transit logistics.
The meeting, held at the authority’s headquarters in Damascus with the participation of International Relations Director Mazen Alloush, reviewed investment opportunities in seaport development, free zones, and dry ports to boost regional trade flow.
In an official statement posted on its Telegram channel, the authority noted that deliberations highlighted high-priority strategic projects currently under development, including the al-Hamidiyah port project and proposed logistics zones in the al-Tanf region.
Customs modernization and digital transformation
The two sides examined avenues to leverage Saudi expertise in modernizing customs systems, driving digital transformation, accelerating clearance procedures, and upgrading inspection technologies.
Discussions also covered technical training programs, institutional capacity building, and expert exchange mechanisms aimed at increasing operational efficiency and facilitating cross-border commercial movement between the two nations.
Transport infrastructure and regional connectivity
The meeting underscored the importance of developing integrated transport infrastructure, strengthening linkages between maritime ports, land border crossings, free trade zones, and rail networks to solidify Syria’s role as a key regional logistics hub.
Both officials reaffirmed their commitment to ongoing coordination to translate prospective opportunities into actionable executive projects that support Syria’s national recovery and economic development.
The talks follow previous high-level consultations held on August 27 between Badawi and Saudi Minister of Transport and Logistics Services Saleh bin Nasser al-Jasser on expanding port and logistical integration.
