Damascus, Oct. 13 (SANA) Syria transported 25.27 million tonnes of goods from January through September 2026, including 22.77 million tonnes domestically and 2.51 million tonnes across its borders, according to the Transport Ministry’s Directorate for Freight Transport Regulation.

The directorate recorded 1,263,611 loaded vehicles during the period, including 1,180,109 operating within Syria and 83,502 carrying goods across its borders, director Khaled Kasha told SANA on Monday.

Domestic freight volumes reached 3.55 million tonnes in July, the highest monthly total during the period, followed by 3.13 million tonnes in April, according to the data.

Authorities seek tighter freight controls

The directorate recorded 503 road monitoring points and 377 fixed and mobile weighbridges over the nine months.

Kasha said the directorate was working to strengthen oversight of loaded trucks and control vehicle weights to protect road infrastructure and facilitate the movement of goods between governorates and through border crossings.

On Sept. 17, the directorate met with officials from freight transport offices to discuss a unified strategy to standardize procedures and improve services for transport operators and other stakeholders.
