Abu Dhabi, Oct. 4 (SANA). The UAE, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan signed a memorandum of understanding to cooperate on developing a strategic railway corridor linking Central Asia with South Asia, according to the UAE News Agency (WAM).
WAM reported Sunday that the memorandum aims to develop a railway route running through Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Afghanistan to Pakistani ports, with the goal of strengthening trade, transport and logistics links among countries in the region.
Under the memorandum, the parties will conduct technical and economic studies and assess the feasibility of developing the infrastructure and related facilities, paving the way for determining implementation mechanisms and next steps.
During a visit to Kazakhstan, UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei also discussed with Kazakh officials ways to strengthen cooperation in energy, transport, infrastructure, investment and technology.
The planned project would provide an additional rail route for the movement of goods and support cross-border trade and investment, while improving Central Asian countries’ access to international markets.
The memorandum comes alongside UAE-Kazakh discussions on cooperation in energy, transport, infrastructure, investment and technology.
