New York, Oct. 02 (SANA) A delegation from the Central Bank of Syria, led by Governor Safwat Raslan, participated in a roundtable hosted by the U.S. Department of the Treasury in New York to discuss steps to rehabilitate Syria’s banking sector and enhance its integration into the global financial system.
The meeting was attended by U.S. Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorist Financing and Financial Crimes Jonathan Burke, Syrian Minister of Finance Mohammed Yisr Barnieh, Syria’s chargé d’affaires in Washington Mohammad Kanatri, as well as representatives of the U.S. Department of the Treasury, American financial institutions and banks.
Separately, the delegation met with representatives of JPMorgan to discuss strengthening banking relations and developing international payment and transaction channels.
Earlier, on Sept. 30, Finance Minister Mohammed Yisr Barnieh and Central Bank Governor Safwat Raslan participated in a high-level workshop bringing together Arab central bank governors and finance ministers on the sidelines of the 50th session of the Council of Arab Central Banks and Monetary Authorities Governors in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates.
