CBS confirms ongoing banknotes printing in cooperation with pre-contracted Russian company

Damascus, SANA-The Central Bank of Syria (CBS) has confirmed that it has completed the printing of additional quantities of banknotes in collaboration with a Russian company with which it had previously signed a contract, adhering to established standards. The bank also noted that the issue of changing the national currency or introducing a completely new issuance remains under study.

In a statement today, the bank explained: “In the interest of transparency and in response to circulating information in some media outlets and social media platforms, we clarify that, as part of plans to meet market demand for the national currency, the printing of banknotes is being completed with the previously contracted Russian company, following approved standards and under official agreements that ensure high printing quality and adherence to proper procedures.”

The bank further stated: “Regarding speculation about changing the national currency or launching an entirely new issuance, we emphasize that this matter is still under study by the Central Bank of Syria. It is subject to thorough evaluations covering economic and technical aspects, and no decisions will be made until all necessary studies are completed and required approvals are obtained.”

The Central Bank reaffirmed its commitment to closely monitoring economic developments and taking necessary measures to ensure monetary stability and strengthen confidence in the Syrian pound. It also urged citizens and media outlets to rely on official sources for accurate information and to exercise caution in the dissemination of news.
