Muscat, Sept. 1 (SANA) A tanker was struck by three unknown projectiles while sailing out of the Strait of Hormuz, 17 nautical miles east of Oman’s Khasab, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said.
UKMTO said the incident was reported at 2000 UTC on August 31 by a company security officer. No casualties or environmental impact were reported, while authorities are investigating the circumstances.
The maritime security agency advised vessels operating in the area to transit with caution and report any suspicious activity to its operations center.
The incident is the latest in a series of reported projectile strikes involving commercial vessels in and around the Khasab and Musandam area. Previous UKMTO warnings in recent days also reported tankers being struck by unidentified projectiles while transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
The latest incident occurred as shipping through the strategically important waterway remains severely disrupted amid heightened regional tensions. The Strait of Hormuz is a major transit route for global energy supplies, making security incidents there a potential source of pressure on oil markets.
Oil prices have risen amid concerns over possible disruptions to shipping through the strait. West Texas Intermediate crude was recently trading above $85 a barrel, while Brent crude had moved above $90 a barrel.
The latest strike involved an outbound tanker and three projectiles, although no attribution for the incident has been publicly established.
