Tartous, Aug. 7 (SANA) Baniyas Port in Tartous Governorate has witnessed notable activity since the beginning of the year, receiving 108 tankers carrying about 3.23 million tons of various petroleum products and handling the transit of more than two million tons of Iraqi oil, in addition to expanding ship maintenance, repair, and technical conversion services.
The General Authority for Border Crossings and Customs said on its Telegram channel on Thursday evening that the port handled the transit of more than two million tons of Iraqi oil crossing Syrian territory under the transit system, through 30 tankers carrying fuel oil and petroleum distillates.
The Authority added that the port also received 19 vessels that underwent various maintenance and repair works, including routine maintenance, structural and mechanical repairs, engine and technical equipment servicing, and deck equipment maintenance. The works also included specialized technical conversions of several vessels into livestock carriers, a field in which the port’s workshops have gained extensive experience.
The Authority said the port’s technical workshops carry out various maintenance and conversion operations using experienced technical personnel in ship repair and outfitting, ensuring vessels’ readiness for navigation in accordance with approved technical plans and international standards. It added that these services have supported the arrival of additional vessels for maintenance and conversion work.
Baniyas Port continues to support the energy sector and maritime transport, while the General Authority for Border Crossings and Customs continues efforts to develop the port by enhancing operational readiness, improving petroleum and maritime services, and providing facilities to support the movement of tankers and vessels.
