Damascus, July 24 (SANA)    Head of the Authority for Local Production and Export Development, Khaled al-Khader, met on Friday with Libor Chlad, head of the European Union mission team in Damascus, to discuss enhancing cooperation and supporting Syrian exports to expand access of national products to European markets, the authority said.

The meeting, held at the authority’s headquarters and attended by representatives of the National Committee for the Registered Exporter (REX) system, reviewed the authority’s vision for the 2026-2030 period aimed at developing the export support system and enhancing the competitiveness of national products, while also discussing key challenges facing Syrian export development.

The meeting focused on the importance of activating the REX system, which allows exporters to benefit from customs exemptions under the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) and contributes to simplifying procedures and reducing export costs, according to the authority.

The REX system is the EU’s registered exporter system for proving the preferential origin of exported goods, based on the principle of self-certification, which eliminates the need for customs authorities to issue certificates of origin for each shipment.
