Damascus, June 30 (SANA)    Head of the Federation of Syrian Chambers of Commerce (FSCC) Alaa al-Ali met on Tuesday with a delegation from the Republic of Austria to discuss ways to enhance economic cooperation and develop trade relations between the two countries, the Federation said.

The delegation included Austria’s Special Envoy to the Middle East Ambassador Arad Benkö, Austria’s charge d’affaires in Damascus Christoph Weidinger, and Economic Counselor Herwig Neuber, according to a Federation statement.

The meeting, held at the Federation’s headquarters in Damascus, focused on discussing mechanisms to facilitate Syrian traders’ access to European markets, revitalize economic activity, improve the investment climate, particularly in the health and energy sectors, the Federation said.

The discussions also reviewed steps to restructure the Federation and its chambers to enhance efficiency, and its recent experience in forming specialized committees and the “Young Entrepreneurs” and “Businesswomen” councils to support the national economy.

In December, the Federation held a similar meeting with an Austrian delegation focused on developing economic and investment cooperation and expanding the presence of Austrian companies and agencies in the Syrian market across various industrial and commercial sectors.
