Damascus, June 23 (SANA) Syrian Petroleum Company (SPC) CEO Youssef Qiblawy met with a delegation from US energy giant Chevron on Tuesday to discuss steps to convert a signed memorandum of understanding on offshore exploration in Block (1) into an executive contract, as part of efforts to develop exploration and attract global investment and expertise, the company said.
The meeting also explored cooperation on the Iraq-Türkiye (Kirkuk-Baniyas) crude oil pipeline project through Syrian territory, examining potential Chevron participation as a strategic partner in the project, along with broader future cooperation in the oil and gas sector, according to a company statement on Telegram.
Earlier on Tuesday, Qiblawy discussed cooperation opportunities with delegations from UAE-based ENOC and Horizon Terminals on rehabilitating and developing pipelines and oil terminals. The talks focused on leveraging technical and operational expertise to support infrastructure projects and improve operational efficiency at oil facilities.
The Kirkuk-Baniyas pipeline is a strategic regional energy corridor that once transported Iraqi crude oil to the Syrian port of Baniyas on the Mediterranean. The pipeline, which became inoperable during the war, represents a key piece of regional energy infrastructure that could support both Syrian energy needs and regional oil exports if rehabilitated. The potential involvement of Chevron in the pipeline’s revival would mark a significant US private sector commitment to Syria’s post-war energy reconstruction.
