Damascus, June 22 (SANA)    Head of the Federation of Syrian Chambers of Commerce Alaa al-Ali met with Chinese Ambassador to Syria Shi Hongwei on Monday to discuss prospects for developing economic and trade relations between the two countries and ways to expand areas of joint cooperation, the federation said.

During the meeting at the Chinese embassy in Damascus, both sides affirmed their commitment to continued coordination and communication, and to organizing more meetings and mutual visits to enhance economic and investment cooperation and consolidate the Syria-China partnership in the interest of both friendly countries, according to a federation statement.

Al-Ali stressed the need to elevate the level of economic partnership with the Chinese private sector and encourage Chinese investment in the Syrian market, noting the federation’s role in supporting the private sector and promoting economic initiatives that boost trade and investment activity.

Issam al-Gharyouti, vice president of the federation, emphasized the importance of facilitating visa procedures for Syrian businessmen to enhance trade and investment exchange and open broader horizons for cooperation between the two countries’ business communities.

Ambassador Shi Hongwei expressed his country’s commitment to developing bilateral relations across various economic fields, highlighting the importance of the upcoming Syrian-Chinese Business Salon in Beijing as a platform to launch a new phase of trade and investment cooperation and strengthen direct communication between economic stakeholders from both sides.

The meeting was attended by Anas al-Bou, head of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Federation of Syrian Chambers of Commerce.

The Federation of Syrian Chambers of Commerce was established in 1975 in Damascus to serve the interests of chambers of commerce and industry across provinces, coordinate activities, develop cooperation among them, represent them domestically and internationally, and serve and defend trade and economic interests.
