Baku, June 20 (SANA)    Syria has called on the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) to prioritize post-conflict countries in access to its new concessional financing fund, as well as to provide greater flexibility in financing tools to support recovery and reconstruction efforts.

Syrian Finance Minister Mohammed Yisr Barnieh made the call during a meeting of governors of the IsDB Group in Baku, where discussions focused on a newly launched fund designed to provide soft loans to member states, the ministry said on Saturday.

Barnieh welcomed the establishment of the fund and stressed the importance of ensuring that post-conflict countries benefit from its resources, while also addressing debt challenges through appropriate financial mechanisms, according to a ministry statement on Telegram.

He also underscored the need to strengthen concessional financing for reconstruction and recovery in Syria, and to develop instruments that encourage private-sector investment and enhance cooperation with IsDB Group institutions.

The Islamic Development Bank, established in 1974 and headquartered in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, has 57 member countries across four continents. Its mission is to promote human development through Islamic finance, focusing on poverty alleviation, health, education and prosperity. The bank’s 2026 annual meetings in Baku (June 16-19) brought together finance ministers and development partners under the theme “Regional Integration for Sustainable Prosperity.”
