Damascus, May.26 (SANA) Director General of Local Production and Export and Development Authority, Manhal al-Fares, stated that Syrian exports have begun witnessing a gradual recovery since the beginning of 2026, with notable improvement in export activity and the return of several regional markets to receiving Syrian products.
In a statement to SANA on Tuesday, al-Fares pointed out that demand for Syrian industrial, food and agricultural products has grown, while improvements in border crossings and land transportation contributed to revitalizing export operations.
He added that importers have shown growing demand in Syrian products due to their quality and competitive prices, pointing to the return of strategic sectors such as phosphate exports and logistics services linked to transit operations and pipeline networks.
Supporting Local Production
Al-Fares indicated that the authority is working to support local products and enhance their export readiness in parallel with efforts to open new markets and connect Syrian producers with importers and international economic events.
He noted that this is being pursued through supporting Syrian companies’ participation in international exhibitions and coordinating with chambers of commerce and industry, as well as the General Establishment for Exhibitions and International Markets.
Al-Fares further stated that the authority continues to modernize the export environment by facilitating procedures, supporting quality standards and specifications, and building modern databases aimed at strengthening the competitiveness of Syrian products in foreign markets.
Economic Digital Transformation
Regarding the “National Electronic Export Registry” platform, al-Fares said that it represents an important step within the broader economic digital transformation project.
He said the platform provides an accurate database for exporters while simplifying procedures, reducing paperwork and accelerating registration and updating processes.
Al-Fares said that the platform is expected to contribute in the future to linking exporters with various export services and opportunities, while supporting the authority’s efforts to negotiate customs facilitations and exemptions aimed at enhancing the efficiency of the export sector and keeping pace with modern trade requirements.
The Syrian Export and Local Product Development Authority was established under Law No. 3 of 2016, replacing the Export Development and Promotion Authority founded under Decree No. 9 of 2009, with the aim of achieving effective integration between the production and export sectors and enhancing the competitiveness of Syrian exports.
