Washington, May 17 (SANA) The White House announced Sunday that China has committed to purchasing approximately $17 billion in U.S. agricultural products from this year through 2028, Reuters reported.
According to a White House statement, the commitment was reached in the context of meetings held last week between U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, and does not include separate pledges Beijing made in October last year regarding soybean purchases.
The statement said China will work with U.S. regulatory authorities to lift restrictions on American beef processing facilities and resume poultry imports from U.S. states that demonstrate freedom from avian influenza.
The announcement comes against the backdrop of a sharp decline in U.S. agricultural exports to China last year, driven by successive rounds of mutual tariffs. Data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture showed trade fell 65.7 percent year-on-year to $8.4 billion.
Trump and Xi concluded a bilateral summit in Beijing on Friday, during which both sides said they had made progress toward stabilizing relations and stressed the importance of continued dialogue to serve both countries’ interests and ease regional and international tensions.
