Tartous, May 16 (SANA) The General Authority for Borders and Customs in Syria has launched a project to rehabilitate the phosphate quay at Tartous Port, aiming to align operations with international environmental standards.
Director of Relations at the authority Mazen Alloush said the plan includes structural repairs, upgraded loading equipment, and new systems to reduce dust and emissions from bulk cargo handling. Closed transport systems and improved storage methods are also part of the project.
Authorities said the upgrade seeks to address long-standing infrastructure and operational shortcomings in Syria’s phosphate export sector and improve efficiency at the port.
The project also envisions a dedicated terminal for bulk materials such as phosphates and clinker, separating such operations from other port activities.
Officials said the modernization is expected to boost exports, cut costs, and reinforce Tartous Port as a regional logistics hub.
