Damascus, Apr. 28 (SANA) Governor of the Central Bank of Syria, Abdulkader Husrieh, announced on Tuesday an agreement to begin normalizing banking relations between the Central Bank of Syria and the German Central Bank ( Deutsche Bundesbank) and to initiate procedures for opening an account for the Central Bank of Syria at the German bank.
In a post on his Facebook page, Husrieh confirmed that the agreement is a significant achievement for the financial sector in Syria, for the Central Bank, and for the Syrian financial system in general, indicating that the implementation steps will begin immediately.
He noted that each day brings further progress toward achieving new milestones within the framework of implementing the Central Bank’s strategy.
The Syrian-German agreement comes within the framework of a broader effort to reconnect the Syrian financial system with European and international banks, and to bolster efforts to rebuild the Syrian economy after years of isolation and financial restrictions.
