Paris, March 17 (SANA) China and the United States reached a preliminary agreement on some trade issues during two days of talks in Paris, China’s Commerce Ministry said Tuesday.
Speaking at a press conference, China’s international trade representative Li Chenggang described the latest round of talks as “frank, in-depth and constructive,” adding that discussions covered bilateral tariff levels under current conditions, according to China’s Xinhua news agency.
Li said both sides agreed to work together to maintain stability in bilateral economic and trade relations.
He added that China raised “deep concerns” over U.S. measures on trade and investment involving Chinese entities, stating that Beijing opposes what it described as unilateral investigations.
Li warned that such measures could undermine recently restored stability in economic ties and said China would take necessary steps to safeguard its interests.
China’s Commerce Ministry had earlier protested U.S. trade investigations announced shortly before the talks, calling them “one-sided, arbitrary and highly discriminatory.”
Trade tensions between the two countries escalated last year over tariffs and restrictions before a truce was declared in October, following a meeting between U.S. and Chinese leaders.
