EU Parliament president warns of impact of Iranian attacks on global energy security

Strasbourg, March 10 (SANA) – European Parliament President Roberta Metsola condemned Iranian attacks targeting Gulf countries, describing them as “flagrant” and warning of their serious repercussions on global energy security.

Speaking at the opening of the European Parliament’s March plenary session on Monday in Strasbourg, Metsola affirmed that the European Union stands alongside the countries targeted by the attacks.

She also referred to what she described as repression faced by the Iranian people, highlighting the European Parliament’s stance in supporting Iranians and continuing pressure to enable them to determine their own future and live in freedom.

The region has witnessed a military escalation since February 28, with ongoing U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran and Iranian missile and drone attacks targeting vital facilities in several Arab and regional states.

The Iranian attacks have raised international concerns about a possible widening of the confrontation, threatening global energy supplies and navigation in strategic maritime routes.
