Abu Dhabi – Manama, March 3 (SANA) Amazon said some of its data centers in the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain were damaged in drone attacks, causing significant disruptions to cloud services and affecting financial institutions and other clients that rely on them.
The company said restoring full operations will take time due to structural damage, power outages and fires that required emergency response.
According to Reuters, two facilities in the UAE were directly hit, while a drone that fell near a Bahrain site caused additional damage. Amazon said it is working to resume services as quickly as possible, but the extent of the damage makes recovery complex.
The outages affected dozens of applications and essential cloud services, prompting Amazon to advise customers to implement backup systems and shift operations to unaffected servers to minimize disruption.
The incident highlights concern about the vulnerability of major U.S. technology companies’ infrastructure in the region. Microsoft, Google and Oracle operate similar facilities across Gulf states.
The attacks come amid ongoing Iranian drone and missile strikes on Gulf states, in retaliation for U.S.-Israeli military operations, underscoring the broader regional tensions affecting critical technology infrastructure.
