Damascus, Feb. 19 (SANA) Syrian Finance Minister Mohammed Yisr Barnieh met with representatives of the French advisory firm Lazard to discuss financial sector reform and institutional development.
The ministry said on its Telegram channel on Thursday that discussions focused on supporting government efforts to reform the financial sector and attract investment.
Lazard expressed interest in operating in Syria and strengthening coordination with the Ministry of Finance. Both sides agreed to continue discussions on potential areas of cooperation.
On Wednesday, Lazard also held talks with the governor of the Central Bank of Syria to explore prospects for modernizing the banking system, transferring expertise and developing financial tools and services.
The meetings are part of the Syrian government’s efforts to revive the banking and financial sector following the lifting of decade-long economic sanctions imposed by Western countries.
