Beirut, Jan. 26 (SANA) — Qatar’s Minister of State at the Foreign Ministry Mohammad bin Abdulaziz al-Khulaifi on Monday announced the launch of a project to support the voluntary and safe return of displaced Syrians from Lebanon to their homeland, in cooperation with the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
Speaking at a joint press conference with Lebanese Deputy Prime Minister Tarek Mitri in Beirut, al-Khulaifi said the first phase of the initiative would amount $20 million and target nearly 100,000 people. He explained that the project adopts a comprehensive humanitarian approach that includes securing suitable housing and providing food and medical assistance to beneficiaries for three months.
Al-Khulaifi expressed gratitude to the Syrian government for what he described as constructive cooperation and facilitation in implementing the humanitarian and development-oriented project.
The initiative comes as part of ongoing coordination efforts to accelerate the return of displaced Syrians by providing logistical and relief incentives to ensure sustainable resettlement in their original areas. Officials said the project also fits within a broader vision aimed at supporting Syria’s economic and social recovery by creating appropriate housing and service conditions.
