Raqqa, Jan. 20 (SANA) The Syrian Energy Ministry has begun evaluating newly recaptured oil fields in Raqqa and Deir Ezzor, aiming to rehabilitate them and resume production in the future.
Energy Minister Mohammad al-Bashir visited al-Thawra oil field in the Raqqa countryside on Tuesday to assess its condition following its recent recapture by government forces from SDF.
Minister al-Bashir toured the site as part of a broader effort to assess newly recovered oil fields in line with national plans. He emphasized the importance of evaluating wells and facilities to identify maintenance and repair needs, noting that restoring the oil sector is essential for sustainable production.
Separately, Syrian Petroleum Company CEO Youssef Qablawi inspected al-A’zbah oil field in Deir Ezzor to verify its readiness for operation.
The oil fields in Raqqa and Deir Ezzor are among the country’s most productive. al-Thawra (Raqqa) and al-A’zbah (Deir Ezzor) are known for their significant reserves of light crude oil, which is easier and cheaper to refine.
These visits to newly recaptured oil fields demonstrate ongoing government efforts to secure Syria’s natural resources, enhance production, and improve services in liberated areas.
