Damascus, Jan. 15 (SANA) Syria’s Minister of Public Works and Housing, Mustafa Abdul Razzaq, met on Wednesday with a visiting technical delegation from the World Bank to discuss cooperation on reconstruction efforts and priority needs in areas heavily affected by the war.
The talks focused on rebuilding densely populated regions and addressing stalled housing projects, as Syria faces widespread destruction of residential areas and infrastructure.
Abdul Razzaq said housing would be a key priority in the coming period, alongside efforts to revitalize the construction sector. He noted that preliminary estimates indicate more than 1.3 million housing units have been partially or fully damaged.
The minister said some areas could be rehabilitated through repairs, while others would require new urban planning due to extensive infrastructure damage. He emphasized the need for technical support to address the scale of reconstruction required.
Members of the World Bank delegation expressed readiness to cooperate with Syria by sharing expertise and drawing on international reconstruction experience, particularly in areas of economic and social significance.
Both sides agreed to continue coordination and conduct field visits to assess cooperation opportunities and project implementation mechanisms, aiming to accelerate recovery and promote sustainable development.
The World Bank provides technical and advisory support for reconstruction and development in conflict-affected countries, including urban planning, infrastructure rehabilitation, and housing.
