Damascus, Dec.6 (SANA) – Governor of the Central Bank of Syria (CBS), Abdulkader Husrieh, welcomed Canada’s decision to lift sanctions on Syria, describing the move as the beginning of “a new chapter of opportunities and constructive cooperation” between the two countries.
In a statement published Saturday on the Bank’s official Telegram channel, Husrieh said his recent visit to Canada included a series of “fruitful and successful” meetings with the Bank of Canada and key financial partners, aimed at strengthening cooperation between the Syrian and Canadian financial sectors.
He noted that the visit demonstrated Canada’s clear willingness to support financial stability and broaden avenues of cooperation with Syria in the coming period. “We look forward to building on this new beginning and working together to reintegrate our economy into the global financial system in a safe and effective manner,” he added.
Canada announced on Friday the lifting of sanctions on Syria, stressing that the decision is in line with similar steps recently taken by its allies, including the United Kingdom and the United States.
