NASTEX Expo seen as step to restore Syria’s traditional textile sector

Syrian industrial and trade officials hailed the upcoming Syria International Textile Expo, “NASTEX 2026,” as a key step in restoring the country’s historic textile industry locally and internationally.

Mohammad Ayman Al-Malawi, head of the Damascus Chamber of Industry, said the event will provide a platform to connect manufacturers and traders, promote new production technologies, and enhance product quality. He added that the expo will help expand domestic and foreign markets while creating jobs for Syrian professionals.

Al-Malawi noted that the chamber is working with government authorities to secure an investment-friendly environment through infrastructure, financing, and vocational training, aiming to revitalize the textile, garment, and dyeing sectors. The expo will also launch programs for business support, training, and networking.

Eisam Ghriywati, head of the Damascus Chamber of Commerce, emphasized that textiles are a cornerstone of Syria’s economy. He said the expo could encourage Syrian industrialists abroad to invest their expertise and capital at home. The chamber plans workshops and trade facilitation to boost exports and regional and international partnerships.

The textile industry in Syria has a centuries-old history, producing traditional looms, brocade fabrics, and silk. “NASTEX 2026” is scheduled for April 1–4, 2026.
