Ministry of Energy signed Thursday a memorandum of understanding with the Saudi Fund for Development, which includes a grant to Syria to supply 1.65 million barrels of crude oil.
Energy Minister Mohammad al-Bashir told reporters that the grant comes within the framework of the Kingdom’s support for Syria and will have a positive impact on achieving development and reconstruction.
The Minister added that the crude oil will be transferred to Baniyas for refining, and then it will be supplied to fuel stations with the petroleum products.
“We extend gratitude to Riyadh for its support in various fields,” al-Bashir said.
In turn, Mr. Sultan bin Abdulrahman Al-Murshid, CEO of the Saudi Fund for Development, said: “I am pleased today to be in Syria, under the directives of His Majesty King Salman bin Abdulaziz and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, to sign a memorandum of understanding regarding a grant provided by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through the Saudi Fund for Development, amounting to 1.65 million barrels of crude oil, to support the energy sector in Syria.”
