Damascus, Jan.29 (SANA) Syrian actress, Huda Shaarawi, passed away on Thursday at the age of 88 following a horrific murder as she was killed in her home in Bab Sreijeh neighborhood of old Damascus.
Ministry of Interior said in a press release today that internal security units and criminal investigation teams immediately initiated the necessary legal procedures upon receiving the report of Shaarawi’s murder at her home.
The late artist was born in Damascus in 1938 and began her artistic journey at the age of nine in the Syrian radio, where she participated in a number of radio productions, most notably episodes of the popular series “The Rule of Justice.”
In the Theater and Cinema
During the 1970s, Huda Shaarawi presented a collection of theatrical performances with social and historical themes, including: “A Day in the Syrian Revolution,” “A Lucky Groom,” “That’s It,” and “The Lady and the Secretary.”
The late has also participated in nine films since 1973, beginning with “A Night of Love,” and her last cinematic appearance was in the film “Please, No Entry” in 1984.
In Television Drama
Late Shaarawi’s career lasted nearly half a century, during which she presented more than 50 works, starting with the series “Fawzia” in 1977, through prominent works such as; “Women Without Wings” (1987), “For You, Damascus” (1989), “Damascus Days,” “Five-Star Family” (1992), and not ending with her last work, “Fire with Fire” in 2023.
Her most famous role remains that of “Umm Zaki” in the renowned series “Bab Al-Hara” in 2006, a role she played for more than ten years, to the point that the audience knew her by that character name off-screen.
