Lavrov affirms necessity of eradicating terrorism from Syria and starting comprehensive political process

Moscow, SANA- Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has stressed the necessity of eradicating terrorism from Syria and starting a comprehensive political process.

In a statement in Moscow on Tuesday, Lavrov said that it is necessary to eliminate terrorism completely from Syria and to start a comprehensive political process according to the resolutions of the UN Security Council and in the framework of the International Syria Support Group “ISSG”.

He indicated that these goals had been discussed in Berlin between President Vladimir Putin, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande.

Lavrov added that Russia’s conclusions are still firm and they are based on separating the so-called “moderate opposition” from “Jabhat al-Nusra”, the “ISIS” and other terrorist organizations, pointing out that the Americans haven’t been able to do that over the past eight months.

He said that the Russian air forces are in Syria upon the request of the Syrian Government to combat terrorism based on the international law.
