President al-Assad issues decree granting extra exam courses and academic years for university students

Damascus, SANA – President Bashar al-Assad on Tuesday issues decree no. 246 for 2016 on granting extra exam courses and extra academic years for university students.

The extra courses are granted to primary university stage students, students in qualifying and specialization studies, and Master’s degree students who failed any subject in the 2015-2016 academic year, and the exams will be held in the 2016-2017 academic year.

The decree also grants primary university stage students, students in qualifying and specialization studies, and Master’s degree students who exhausted opportunities for applying to exams an extra academic year in the 2016-2017 academic year.

In a statement to SANA, Higher Education Minister Atef Naddaf said this decree allows students to make up for progress lost in their studies due to the exceptional circumstances in the country that prevented some students from taking exams or discussing theses, noting that this decree is more comprehensive than previous ones, and adding that the Ministry will issue the executive instructions for this decree in a few days, and these will include dates and other necessary information for students.
