Syria condemns terrorist attack in Baghdad

Damascus, SANA-Syria condemned on Sunday the terrorist attack that rocked the Iraqi capital Baghdad on Sunday killing dozens, including many women and children, affirming that these terrorist acts show once again the need for concerted international efforts to combat terrorism away from double standards.

“The Foreign and Expatriates Ministry of the Syrian Arab Republic condemns the bloody coward terrorist attack which targeted Sunday al-Karrada area in central Baghdad, killing dozens, many of them women and children, injuring many others, and causing massive damage to the markets and shops which were bustling with citizens,” a source at the Foreign and Expatriates Ministry said in a statement to SANA.

The ministry expresses sincere condolences to the Iraqi people, the families of victims and the Iraqi government, added the source, wishing the wounded a quick recovery.

The source pointed out that these terrorist acts committed by foreign-backed forces of extremism confirm once again the need for concerted international efforts to combat terrorism away from the double standard.

“Syria calls on the international community through the United Nations and the UN Security Council to work to put pressure on countries supporting terrorism to stop their support for the killers and criminals in order to save the lives of people in Iraq and serve peace and security in the region and the world,” the source said.

Over 167 Iraqi civilians, including many women and children, were killed and 180 others were injured due to a terrorist bombing which was carried out by suicide bomber belonging to ISIS on Sunday in al-Karrada neighborhood in the Iraqi capital Baghdad.
