Washington-backed “opposition” violates cessation of hostilities agreement, Russian MOD

Moscow, SANA, Russian Ministry of Defense affirmed that Washington-backed what is called “opposition” violates the cessation of hostilities agreement in Syria, which came into effect on 27 February 2016 as implementation of the Security Council resolution 2268.

“violations of the cessation of hostilities agreement are registered in areas where opposition groups, supported by Washington, are there, particularly which the Russian warplanes don’t target, based on requests from the Americans, in spite of providing concrete evidence of the existence of terrorist groups in those areas”, Russian RT quoted Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov, the spokesman for the Russian Defense Ministry as saying in a statement Friday.

Terrorist groups, mainly “Jaish Al-Islam” and “Ahrar Al-Sham”, violated the agreement 739 times so far.

The Russian General added that the operations of what is called International Coalition for Fighting Terrorism did not come out with any tangible results, although it has more resources as far as participants and time is concerned, affirming that his country would continue fighting the internationally-designated terrorist groups in Syria.
